There is absolutely no question that the fresh rendition of The Great Gatsby is going to be Major. Baz Luhrmann is a phenomenal director and his wife, designer Catherine Martin, is the mastermind behind all of the set and costume design of Gatsby AND all of his other grand films such as Moulin Rouge- for which she won two Oscars. (Basically, I want to be Catherine Martin.)
The scenes of this entire production are so visually enticing / addicting / brainwashing to me I can not even try to focus. Welcome to the Jazz Age.
“Baz and his team built this spectacular world that brings you back to a version of the 1920s—one that also kind of contemporizes it. It’s the ’20s as the characters might have experienced them. The film is an amazing, immersive experience.” (Tobey Maguire)

The Glam cast: Tobey Maguire, Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, and Joel Edgerton.

Gatsby’s opulent ballroom.

“Though Gatsby’s bedroom… the decor is all up-to-the-minute ’20s glamour, with richly polished hardwoods, a harlequin-pattern wall covering of silk crisscrossed with ribbons of wood, and a gray and gold Art Deco–style rug designed by Martin.”

The Buchanans’ Estate
“Then there’s the Georgian redbrick manor…Inspired in part by Old Westbury Gardens on Long Island, the home (whose exterior was built on a soundstage, with enhancements added digitally) instantly conveys establishment status. The luxurious Hollywood Regency– and Deco-inflected furnishings in the sitting room, the contemporary art, and the formal gardens are all intended, Martin says, “to contrast Daisy with the new-money fantasist that is Gatsby.”

“The Buchanans’ sitting room features a vibrant mix of styles, from European Deco to Hollywood Regency, evoking a fashionable luxury.”

If are blind and you did not notice that fabulous fabric that has been delicately washed all over the Buchanans’ elegant upholstery..I will let you in on a little secret…

I spend this weekend in the beautiful city of Chicago. What a relaxing breath of fresh air. I really enjoyed the architecture, people and overall relaxed vibe of the big city. It was such a great escape from NYC! Here are my quick instagrams… more info to come. I can’t wait for round II, the trip was too short!

In flight on the way to Chicago from New York, I watched the entire time. There is nothing I love more than being surrounded by city lights. I would take this over the beach any day… Just saying :)

Room service has to be my favorite activity in the entire world. YES! Good to sit back and enjoy life for a minute with an omelet and coffee in bed.

I walked the magnificent mile of Michigan Ave. - beautiful architecture and elevated shopping combined. Chicago is such a classy city. I am in love.

This photo was taken at the top of Hancock Tower. One thousand feet in the air. A great Observatory to experience a 360 view of the city.

The Windy City.
My grandmother’s vintage Valentino trench coat was to-the-tee the perfect Chicago moment/situation/life/city attire/dream sequence.
{I love you Mrs. Barbara Van Vliet}

I stayed at the Aqua Tower which is a mixed use building developed for condominiums and also has a Raddison Blu in 18 of the 86 stories. I love the unique wave-like architecture on the façade of this tower. It looks so futuristic but organic at the same time.
This picture looks unreal, but I took it with my iPhone 5.

Millennium Park, The Frank Gehry- Jay Pritzker Pavilion and The Cloud Gate (pictured here, also known as “the bean”) are definitely a must see and I am thrilled I got to experience them.
Until next time Chicago…
